Lynn's Story

Lynn tells us how she and her husband came to know the Lord:

“My Mum was a spiritualist medium and I was brought up going to the spiritualist church, but she always talked about Jesus. Then I met my husband. He was attending Jehovah’s Witness meetings – and he asked if I realised that spiritualism had nothing to do with Christianity, but actually belonged to the devil. I was completely unaware of this! When we got married, we attended the Jehovah’s Witness meetings together. We were there for about two years. In the end, we disagreed with them about their teaching around Israel and the place of the Jewish people in the New Testament and we left the Jehovah’s Witness meetings.

For a while we didn’t belong to any Church. We would have meetings in our house for ex-Jehovah Witnesses and some other people. I went to a meeting one evening and it was there that I first really experienced the love of God – I could see it and I wanted it! I pursued it, I read the bible and when I read the words “Jesus Christ is the saviour of the world” it wasn’t just words anymore – it was truth.

We still weren’t attending any Church but we wanted to get baptised. So two Christians we knew came to our house, we were baptised in our bath – my husband, our two children and myself. Afterwards, they prayed for us to receive the Holy Spirit… and nothing happened! When they left, my husband said “Well! That’s a load of old rubbish!” But I didn’t listen!

The next day, after he had gone to work, I knelt down beside the bed and said “Thank you, Lord, for giving me your Holy Spirit.” I suddenly started speaking in tongues – I was amazed! I felt loved, full of peace and joy. When my husband returned, he could see the change in me. Unknown to me, he went to his room to pray and I went to have a bath. Suddenly, when I was in the bath, he burst into the room. He was laughing and crying and speaking in tongues.

Later, he told me that when he was praying, the Lord told him that he needed to forgive his sister.  As he made the decision to forgive her, all the ill feeling towards her went, all the anger. And then he too was filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Before Lynn became a Christian, she was exposed to Spiritualism and worshipped with Jehovah's Witnesses - if you'd like more information on why these groups are regarded as outside the Christian Church, please do contact us
