Mission

The word 'mission' can mean different things to different people. When we say 'mission' we may visualize...

  • James Bond driving a speed boat in pursuit of underworld criminals?
  • Or a group of super spiritual Christians moving to Africa to start an orphanage or a medical clinc?

Whatever our picture of mission – mission involves action taken by a person or group of people in response to an order from above.

The nature of mission is always determined by the mission owner – the sender. Christian mission is God’s mission to the world - a mission which He gave the Church at the end of the gospel of Matthew. God’s mission has one objective – the salvation of the world through Jesus Christ. Mission is nothing less than God’s love in action and since God is everywhere that action can take place anywhere. The power behind God’s mission is God Himself - all we have to do is be obedient and allow Him to work through us. To really understand mission we need to know the God whose mission it is.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit

Matthew 28:19

If you are a Christian, God has a specific calling on your life and a specific part for you to play in His mission to the world. You may have an idea of what this may be or you may just have questions. We would like to encourage you to pray about the area of mission and speak to your Pastor or mature christian friends to see what area of mission God is calling you to get involved in.

As a Church, we have long been involved in and supported mission. Use these pages to see what we do in Bexley and further afield
